The State of Trail Running report explores the business side of the sport’s growth. But as the money increases, are we certain that we are staying true to the values that make trail running special?
Well done a really interesting article. I agree with the steep prices of UTMB. I ma doing my first one this year and I am not sure that I will be able to do one every year :)maybe you should conduct the research in Europe?
That you for your feedback! Enjoy your race! Which race are you doing? They really do tend to put up some good races in amazing locations!
With regards to the research, I do have something planned, but I need a bit more time to fully develop it before I release it and start gathering data :)
Etna trail was also my first overseas trail race. It's a very well organised race and it's not that common to run on an active volcano :) I've not done Lavaredo yet but it does have a great reputation...maybe I'll go and run there one day :)
I've only been coached for 1 year (2023) and since then I have been without a coach. Who is your coach?
Yes it was nice the Etna trail. Enjoyed it. The race itself is not expensive either, but you always end up spending close to 500€ for travelling, accommodation, car rental and food.
My coach is Reuben. There is a Nicholas Micallef on the chat and I though it was you :)
For me, good races are ones which have the support of the local community. Probably the race with the best community feeling was Ohrid Ultra Trail in North Macedonia. It's such a nice small place that the whole village is behind the race. Definitely worth a visit.
I know who Reuben is but I never worked with him. I heard he's a good coach so I'm sure you have a good experience with him.

I am doing Lavaredo 50km :) it's my first UTMB. I only did Etna Ultra Trail out of Malta. I heard that Lavaredo is one of the nicest.
I look forward to contribute to the research. BTW I think we have the same coach :)
